According to figures provided by the Federal Office United States, there are 50 million Hispanics registered through 2010 or, what is the same, one in six Americans is Latino.
The census also reported the new American population profile which almost 197 million are white, 50.5 million Hispanics, 37.7 million blacks and 14.5 million Asians.
The most populated cities are New York, with 8 million 100 thousand inhabitants, Los Angeles, with 3 million 700 thousand in third place Chicago, with 2 million 600 thousand, Houston, with 2 million 900 000 and Philadelphia, with a million and a half.
Hispanics and Asians together account for an increase of 42 percent of the population compared to the 2000 census, with Hispanics now 16 percent of all registered residents.
For the first time, Hispanic population growth outpaced that of blacks and whites in the region, changing the population profile of "white-black."
